The 3drops Wines owned by Joanne Bradbury was established in 2001 and over the years the company has become one of the most important producers of distinctive regional wines and olive oil in Western Australia. The name 3drops reflects the three main attributes which makes the company- wine, olive oil and water. These three liquids are the main pillars wherein a large wetland on their property irrigates both the vineyard as well as the olive grove. They began this venture with a vision to produce regional wines and extra virgin olive oil on the family farm while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the farm for years to come. The owner of the 3drops immigrated to Australia in 1973 from UK with her family. Her father who was the commanding officer of British submarine, chose to become a farmer and thus purchased a property in Mount Barker which stretched over an area of 1700 acres. Joanne spent her childhood in the farm and as she grew up she planned along with her husband to plant 2000 Italian varieties of olive trees on the land and in the next year, they made the decision to plant grapes along with olives. The Hopelands Vineyard property in the Margaret River wine region was purchased by the Mathew family in 2005. They conducted research work on their fields after which in 2006, they decided to that the whole vineyard should be completely reworked. Hours of physical labour and hard work was required on the fields wherein the vines were being cut-down and then re-trellised. Their hard work resulted low yielding which carried intense and concentrated fruit. This helped them achieve the fine quality they desired for their premium wines. Their annual harvest at present is about 60,000 tonnes of grape and about 3,000 cases of wines are created from this harvest. However they have a limited boutique size, they are still able to grow various varieties of grapes including sauvignon blanc, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, sémillon, merlot and chardonnay.
